Production Diary

Monday 3rd September

After a brief talk with the group we decided that we need to discuss an official date/s to film for our music video. However, due to outside school arrangements it made us all available for the following week, therefore we are going to discuss about avaliabiltiy on the following week on Friday. But, on a positive, the steal o matic, digipak and annotated lyrics were all completed and available to put individually on our blogs.

Tuesday 4th September

The permission of the use of Hold Me Down meant that we had to message Halsey discussing the reason behind the choice of her song. Jono continued working on the detailed storyboard whilst Evan, Chloe and Alicia looked at the fonts and colour schemes for the Tori Lorente album cover.

Thursday 6th September

Alicia found a radio live lounge performance of Hold Me Down as an Acoustic Version which she had a brilliant idea about a recreation. This meant that we went and spoke to the Music department about the possibility of booking in the music studio for tomorrow morning.

Friday 7th September

We all arrived at school at 8:20 in L9 Media room where we quickly prepared our tripods and cameras so we could get alternative angles of Tori performing. It was a great success as it helped Alicia practice performing and lip syncing, allowed us to work on how we can get the best shots with the lighting available and the height/frame of the shot.

Monday 10th September

After uploading all the footage from the 3 cameras on Friday this meant that we could start editing the Live Lounge footage. Evan took on the responsibility of Editing whilst Alicia started on the website and Chloe and Jono filmed and uploaded the storyboard.

Tuesday 11th September

Today was very important as we all needed to make sure our individual tasks were completed to make sure that we are not behind on any work when we start the filming procedure. Evan finished the editing of the live lounge, whilst Chloe, Alicia and Jono all prepared for the digipak production and created several shots that could be a possibility to use for our digipak. The live lounge was therefore posted on Evans blog for the rest of the group to embed.

Thursday 13th September

Chloe wasn't in today to film the MTV interview so Alicia, Jono and Evan needed to go and see if the interview room by reception was available for use. Evan decided that filming Alicia walking to reception could be useful footage for an introduction for the interview. We asked Tori a range of questions that were based on the upcoming music video, general life and her own opinions on a variety of topics. We found this very amusing and useful as Tori showed her vibrant characteristics that we will need throughout our music video.

Monday 17th September

Evan uploaded the edited MTV interview to his blog which is available for the rest of the group to achieve another blog post. One of our shots that we would really like to be in our music video needed to be practice so we know what props we need and where to film it. We had an idea of having alternative coloured water flicking up from a drum to create an interesting shot when the beat speeds up. We therefore went to the common room and recreated the shot which we found looked really impressive with a white back ground and a slow motion effect applied.

Monday 19th September

Today was the first real day that our music video ideas were put together to decide on a song. However, two members of our group Chloe sand Jono weren't in so me and Alicia had to come up with some personal ideas. As we both liked a previous music video that a student had one called East of Eden which had an interesting Indie beat as well as a compelling theme we would like to do something similar. After flicking through several songs we have found a few that we will discuss as a whole group tomorrow.

Tuesday 20th September

This was the first day as a whole group we could sit down and discuss what song we would like to have. As yesterday Alicia and I found a few we could become creative with yesterday we showed Chloe and Jono and they were convinced. However, we still felt from each song we discussed there was still a part of it missing for what we wanted. Therefore, later that night we discussed two song choices in a group chat which will be presented to the class for tomorrow.

Friday 21st September

As apart of the shooting schedule and the availability of our group we collected all the equipment needed to film in Chelmsford town. We started to film at around half 3 in the afternoon which meant we could still film in the right lighting and to have enough time before it becomes dark. We had several settings which we thought could be appropriate for the different beats and lyrics throughout the song. Overall we were very happy with the footage we got and will give us several shots for the editing process.

Thursday 22th September

After discussion in our group chat we decided on 4 songs to pitch to the class which we presented on prezi.  During our presentation Chloe was taking notes of people's feedback so we could use this to improve on our ideas and which song was most popular.

Friday 23rd September

In this lesson, we did the lip syncing task where Chloe and Alicia sang along to the song we have chosen which is Hold Me Down - Hasley.  We then uploaded these videos to you tube and edited them together using Adobe Premiere.  This task helped us chose who would look better as the performer which was edited on Premiere. We found that both Alicia and Chloe could perform equally as well which means that we could alternatively switch between the two throughout the song.

Monday 26th September

At the start of the lesson Alex was the last person to pitch his ideas to the class as we left him feedback for him to consider. Evan, Jono, Chloe and Alicia all continued to look at our lap charts to continue the planning and research chart of our music video production.

Thursday 29th September

Today we continued with the work that we got issued in our lap charts. Jono started working on the Storyboard, Chloe was annotating the lyrics for the music video, Evan started on the Digipak through the use of an Emaze presentation and Alicia was continuing with the still-o-matic.

Thursday 6th October

Today Jono and Chloe were looking at costume and make up ideas for the artist.  Evan and Alicia were researching unique locations to film to suit our artist.

Monday 10th October

Today Alicia created and edited the steal-o-matic for our artist whilst Evan and Chloe made a list of the props we would need to use within the video as well as finalising the costumes needed for our artist, Tori Lorente.

Thursday 13th October

Today Jono and Chloe looked at Album covers from big artists to see what we could be inspired by for our own digipack.  Whilst, they were researching Evan and Alicia continued to edit the still-o-matic.

Monday 17th October

Today Chloe was annotating the lyrics of our song 'Hold Me Down' and this helped us with a couple of ideas to add to the video.  Evan and Alicia finalized the still-o-matic which also gave us a wide range of ideas we could use and Jono started the digipak.

Friday 21st October

Today we sat down as a group and put everything we had researched all together and started creating a storyboard as well as a shot list.  The storyboard included a lot of detail and had many different varied shots included in it as well as the time of each shot.  After this was done Chloe did a voice over of the storyboard and Jono filmed it.

Monday 24th October

Today we started filming our music video.  We shot in the new Bond Street of Chelmsford and in the underpass in the Army and Navy roundabout.  When we got back to school we uploaded these photos on our computer and looked at the footage we had.  Evan then started editing these shots together and we were all happy with the result we got.

Monday 31st October

In the last week, we were filming every day in 3 different locations.  We shot again in Bond Street in front of a mirrored fish look a like background, we also filmed in front of Hylands Park and then again on a stairway in Chelmsford Town Car Park.

Thursday 3rd November

Evan continued to edit the video and by this time we had over 2 minutes worth of footage.  Alicia helped with the special effects on the video.  Chloe then started to create a website for our artist whilst Jono was making another digipak.  Also, the last couple of days we were updating our blogs and making sure we were organised with our video and the website and digipak suited our artist and genre of music.

Tuesday 16th November

Today Evan continued to edit the music video to the best it can be.  Jono was researching merchandise for our artist.  Alicia and Chloe went off and did a photo shoot for our artist so we could add the photos to the digipak and the website.  When Alicia and Chloe got back they both started researching different magazine ideas to see what inspired them to come up with a magazine idea for Tori Lorente.

Wednesday 23rd November

Today we had a final video, final website and a final digipak to present to the class and we gained feedback from our video.  It was only up until now that we had realised our video didn't work.  The lyrics didn't match the visuals and the song 'didn't go anywhere'.  We found out it was quite boring and it wouldn't get us the grade and feedback we wanted.  Evan then came up with a curve ball to create a brand new video with a complete different genre, type of artist, new website and new digipak.  From today, everyone in the group was focused and determined to create our new video within 3 weeks.

Monday 28th November

Today we found different shots from different music videos which inspired our new video ideas and Evan then made this into a steal-o-matic.  From this, Chloe came up with new costume ideas, Jono started looking at unique locations to set this video and Alicia was helping Evan with the steal-o-matic.

Friday 2nd December

Today Alicia and Evan traveled to London to film the new music video in Soho.  Whilst staying at school, Jono started on a whole new digipak to suit our new genre, Urban, of our artist.  Chloe then re created a whole new website for our artist to suit the new genre also.

Thursday 8th December

Evan started editing the new music video and we all got a first look at the new footage which we were all over the moon about.  Chloe continued to work on the website and also added pictures from the photo shoot taken in London to her website.  Jono continued to edit his digipak with the new photos and it was all beginning to come together.

Wednesday 14th December

Today Alicia used our previous magazine research and created a magazine article to suit our new artist and her new genre.  Jono got his first draft of his digipak finalized and Chloe worked on the merchandise store on her website.  Evan continued to edit the music video as we only had a minutes worth of video within a week of the deadline.

Friday 16th December

Today Chloe finished the website of our new artist and made sure she gained feedback from her peers and her teachers.  Alicia helped Evan edit the video and guided him on the special effects.  Jono finished his digipak and made sure he also got feedback from his teachers and his peers.

Monday 19th December

Evan had nearly finished editing the whole music video with only 9 seconds to complete.  Alicia, Chloe and Jono were there to help Evan if he needed it, in the meantime they split blog posts between them to help each other out with completing the blog.

Wednesday 21st December

Today was the last day of term before the Christmas holidays, Evan completed editing the music video and we were all very happy with the final result.  As a group we worked well together and we helped one another out when needed and this is what made us a team.  Completing two music videos as a group, two websites and over four different digipaks we finally completed our media coursework!
